As far back as we know, human beings have adorned themselves with jewelry. Approximately 75,000 years ago, people living near the shores of the southern tip of Africa bore holes into tick shells, strung them together and wore them as jewelry. Today, Our favorite gems have fascinating stories to tell! Beyond fashion and historical significance, where do they come from? How can you identify them? And why do we value them? This presentation will also cover buying tips as well as challenge your knowledge of gems!

MAKE YOUR OWN MALA NECKLACE
Mala beads are more than just trendy necklaces + bracelets! They have been used in spiritual practice for centuries. They’ve become popular in the U.S. along with meditation and yoga. Medical studies recently reviewed in WebMD have also shown the positive effects using Malas for prayer and meditation has on a person's physical and mental well-being.
Enjoy a relaxing morning in Barbara's Studio garden designing and creating your own personal Mala necklace. You will learn silk knotting and design techniques. All materials are included. Pick your favorite gemstone from 5 different options: Rose Quartz, Lapis Lazuli, Carnelian, Green Aventurine, Bamboo Coral. We will use 108 gemstone beads that are 6mm in size that can be worn as a necklace or wrapped around your wrist.
