ANCIENT GEMS + JEWELRY: the Lure and Lore of GEMSTONES

LOCATION: DBS FINE ART GALLERY, 821 #5 Upper Canyon Road, next to the Teahouse

As far back as we know, human beings have adorned themselves with jewelry. Over centuries, jewelry displayed a person’s identity, their status and wealth. Adornment was worn as protection, in the form of a talisman used in ritual and prayer, or to accompany one into the afterlife. Jewelry also functioned as a statement of royal power or was given as a gift to mark an important occasion.

Barbara will take you back thousands of years to Mesopotamia, Rome and Egypt to view exquisite examples of adornment produced by the artisans of that time. You will be amazed to see that the craftsmanship, resources, and technology to produce gorgeous jewelry was already in place more than 4,000 years ago.

SPOILER ALERT: There will be many beautiful pictures!

THIS IS A FREE EVENT!
